Micky Bolton was born in Durban,
South Africa in 1956. He settled in the UK in 1974 when
his first job was as a metal picker in a scrap yard.
He then embarked on a career in panel beating and paint
spraying, eventually moving on to run his own business
restoring classic and racing cars. Inspired by metal
sculptures from his native South Africa Micky began to
exploit his own welding skills from an artistic viewpoint
in 1994. His years of expertise working with metal enable
him to create a wide variety of exciting art forms using
recycled car body parts and panels and agricultural machinery.
Often the parts themselves provide the inspiration for
the final art form.
Commissions from 1998-2000 have included
a life size horse for a client in Germany, a life size
cow for an ice cream producer and other sculptures have
gone to France, Italy, Ireland, America and Japan. The
gallery has played host to a whole menagerie including
ducks, chickens, dogs, flamingos, ostriches, monkeys
and hippos.
