I work mostly in aluminium or stone, and each of my sculptures is unique. The aluminium pieces are cast in a furnace using the 'lost-polystyrene' method. The stone pieces are all hand-carved, without the use of machine tools.

Each piece is allowed to evolve throughout the making process, rather than being produced to a specific theme or with a clear vision of the end result. I work intuitively, and the journey from the start to the finish of a piece is often an unexpected one.

Opposites intrigue me, and I enjoy exploring aspects such as dark/light, rough/smooth, angular/curved as part of the creative process, seeking to use the balancing effects of these opposing states to add strength to my work.

Living and working on Mersea Island, I am strongly influenced by the sea and the coastal landscape which surrounds me. Artists whom I admire include Barbara Hepworth, Anish Kapoor, and Jonathan and Geoffrey Clarke.
