A
long term fascination with formal gardens generated
a series of paintings exploring both the geometry and
ambiguity of formal design and how we interact with
such spaces. Although I began by looking at garden
design on a wider level, my main interests soon became
the harmony and proportion of the Italian Renaissance
garden. This interest resulted in travels across Europe
to document and respond to such gardens. Parallels
can be made with our need to section, divide and contain
the spaces that we live in both indoors and out. None
of my images however, depict a real space. They are
all fictitious spaces that exist as an illusion. These
spaces attempt to lead you to believe that you are
in a maze, some offer you an outsiders viewpoint.
