Agnes
was born and educated in Hungary and left during the
Hungarian uprising of 1956. She has developed themes
of childhood memories in her work and because she returns
to Hungary on a regular basis, she has come to use
familiar places as background subjects for her work
to this day.
Agnes works in both representational and
abstract styles with a strong emphasis on colour.
Subject
matters include landscapes and nature studies. She
is particularly drawn to the interplay of light and
shade on water, having spent long periods of time by
Lake Balaton in Western Hungary. Many of her paintings
take their inspiration from water patterns on the surface
of Lake Balaton as well as from the ever changing variations
of light and colour caused by atmospheric conditions
there. In a reversal of the conventional format of
large abstract paintings and small prints, Agnes creates
large abstract prints and small, representational oil
paintings. The prints are unique explorations of a
theme, and are not done in a series. She likes to combine
several printmaking techniques, ie multiplate etchings,
etchings with chine colle, viscosity etchings, monoprint
with woodcut, etc.
