’Ian was born and raised in Lincoln, and attended the Lincoln College of art. From there he went to Manchester Polytechnic, and became a self employed potter in 1988.
Ian’s pots are hand thrown and constructed pieces, fired in an electric kiln to stoneware temperatures 1260 – 80c
Centering around the tea pot, a form that has intrigued Ian since college, he has expanded the idea to include full sets.
Recently he has been looking at the physical relationship of the pieces themselves, which has lead to pieces like the Interlocking tea set, a complex set based on a dome, with the cups and pots locking together. He has also created “The Chemystery of Clay” , a tea set based on an enlarged chemistry set, and “Concerto for Clayrinet”, a clarinet shape which is made up of the tea pots and ups of the set. More recently he has created a bassoon version.
Now living and working in Wales, Ian has work throughout England and Wales, and in collections in Korea and the USA.
