’After
working in two dimensions for some time, I developed
a liking for working initially with wood and later
with clay, realising I was most comfortable in 3D.
For a number of years I have produced a selection of
tableware, but more recently enjoying producing one
off pieces for exhibitions, combining both thrown and
hand built techniques.
After a number of holidays in
Southwold, my work was being influenced by the diversity
of the Suffolk coastline - beaches, boats, sand and
sea. My work is also influenced by Biblical truths
and I particularly enjoy designing humorous pots based
on these stories.’
Alan is known mainly for his
pots covered by figures, boats and lighthouses of which
we have many examples in the gallery. For his exhibition
starting in May Alan is preparing something new. Along
with new pots and a series based on the story of Jonah
and the whale will be a colony of penguins and a flock
of puffins.
