’Since completing his
training in 1980 in fine furniture making and design
at Rycotewood College, Thame, Oxon Michael has worked
as a designer-maker creating individual pieces of
furniture made mainly to commission for private
clients. Having spent the first 16 years based in
south Norfolk his workshop is now firmly established
in north Norfolk, near Holt. Much of Michael's furniture
is inspired by classical architecture in its proportion
and detail and he works mainly in English hardwoods,
often incorporating decorative veneers as well as
gold and silver leaf.
Michael has been a member of the Norfolk Furniture
Makers Association since 1994 and during that time
has been awarded a number of the prestigious prizes
that the organisation bestows on its members:
The Mike Hicks award for merit on three occasions
The Arthur Brett Cup for craftsmanship twice
The Craftsmens Shield on three occasions.
The only exhibition at which Michael regularly exhibits
is the Norfolk Furniture Makers exhibition held
every May at The Forum in Norwich and, of course,
at Buckenham Galleries where his work is on permanent
show.
